Postpartum Peace

When I was pregnant I prepared for my birth by completing a Hypnobirthing course with https://www.facebook.com/mindbumpandbirth/

This was the best thing I could’ve done for the following reasons because it;

  • normalised birth as a natural experience
  • prepared me to deal with whatever turn my birth might take
  • greatly reduced my stress leading up to and during the birth
  • empowered me to make my own decisions and be in charge of my own birth
  • helped my partner to take on a very important supportive role during the birth
  • taught me that birthing knowledge is power and provided research based evidence so I could find what was the right fit for me
  • helped me to look forward to the birth, enjoy and be present in the experience of it
  • so much more

When I was pregnant I prepared for my postpartum experience by;

  • creating an Instagram worthy nursery
  • reading a couple of chapters from a baby sleep book.

I no longer have that book...but my sons nursery is still beautiful-contrary to the nay sayers who told me; ‘soon it will be covered in various bodily fluids and an absolute mess!’ I spent many hours in that beautiful room meditating with my baby and looking at my affirmations for postpartum. I carried these practices over from my hypnobirthing birth preparation because I found them just as helpful during my early weeks as a new mother as they were for child birth.

Reflecting on these first weeks as a new mother I recognised with the benefit of hindsight that I could have done more to prepare for my postpartum period. And I began to wonder, what if I could use my professional experience to create something to support new mothers, something that would;

  • normalise postpartum- and the variation of experiences it encompasses
  • prepare women to deal with whatever turn their postpartum journey might take
  • reduce stress leading up to and during postpartum
  • empower women to make their own decisions and be in charge of their postpartum experience
  • help partners to take on a very important supportive role during postpartum and in the life of their child.
  • help women to look forward to the postpartum period and enjoy and be present in the experience of it
  • teach that knowledge about postpartum is power and provide research based evidence for women to find the right fit for them.
  • so much more

If your currently preparing for the best birth possible, I encourage you to spend time preparing to have the best experience getting to know your special new member of the family too.
